Help! I was installing my drivers and when my computer told me to plug in my GPS device and switch it on, the PC did not recognise my device...
Sometimes Garmin's USB drivers can be a bit odd and the computer you are installing the drivers on may not recognise the GPS when the installer asks you to plug it in and switch on your GPS. If this happens there are several things to try, which may get you through the installation:
- Be sure that you do not switch your GPS on until the installer asks you to. If you do switch it on prematurely, this can cause your installation to not recognise the GPS when it should.
- Switch off the GPS. Restart the computer and try the installation again from the start.
- Ensure that you don't have any anti-virus software such as Norton Antivirus running which could disrupt the installation process. If there is an option to disable your virus checker, disable it before you begin.
- Try another cable. Any standard USB cable from another GPS or a digital camera should work.
- If you have a USB hub, try plugging it in and running the GPS through that. Some printers have a USB hub, try plugging your GPS into that and see if it helps.
